Learn How to Leave a Legacy Gift to Crisis Services
What Is Planned Giving?
Planned giving allows you to make a lasting impact on our mission, helping to secure the future of Crisis Services of Erie County. It involves donating through a variety of giving options that fit your financial and philanthropic goals.
Why Choose Planned Giving?
- Create a Legacy: Your generosity ensures that Crisis Services’ life-saving mission will thrive for generations.
- Tax Benefits: Certain types of planned gifts provide tax deductions and financial benefits for you or your estate.
- Flexibility: Choose a giving option that works best for your current financial situation and the legacy you will leave behind.
WEIGHING OPTIONS
WAYS TO GIVE
There are a variety of options for planned giving, allowing you to choose the giving method that best aligns with your values and financial goals. We recommend working with your financial advisor, attorney, or tax professional to help inform your overall estate plan.
Bequests
A gift made through your will or trust, leaving a percentage of your estate, a specific amount, or remaining assets to the Crisis Services Foundation.
- Example: “I leave 50% of my estate to the Crisis Services Foundation to support its life-saving mission.”
Retirement Accounts, Life Insurance, and Bank Beneficiary Designations
You can designate Crisis Services Foundation as the beneficiary or payable on death designee of your retirement accounts, life insurance, and bank accounts.
- Setup is easy: Just contact your provider and update the beneficiary form.
Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)
You can give to Crisis Services’ Foundation through a donor-advised fund at any time as part of your legacy planning. This may allow you to receive an immediate tax deduction while supporting us long-term.
Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs)
This option allows you to donate assets to a trust that provides you with income for a set period of time, with the remainder going to the Crisis Services Foundation after the trust ends.
Gifts of Appreciated Assets
Consider donating stocks, bonds, or real estate that have appreciated in value, potentially averting capital gains taxes while supporting Crisis Services’ mission.
Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs)
This is a contract that provides you or a loved one with a fixed income for life in exchange for a donation. After the annuity holder’s passing, the remainder of the gift supports Crisis Services’ mission.
