Hospital Advocates
The Advocate Department provides a unique service to the community, in which trained staff and volunteers provide help within the hospital setting at all Erie County Hospitals. These crisis first responders offer trauma-informed services to survivors of rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, family violence, and elder abuse.
Confidential, In-Person Support
During your time at all Erie County Hospitals our Hospital Advocates will:
- Provide in-person, confidential support at the Emergency Department 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Offer support during your hospital visit, rape kit, and/or evidence collection.
- Collaborate with you to create a customized safety plan tailored to your specific needs upon leaving the hospital.
- Provide information on community resources, explain your options and rights regarding filing a police report, legal needs, medical accompaniments, orders of protection, and help you connect with a domestic violence shelter, as appropriate and more.
- Explain case management follow-up services that are available to survivors. Individuals interested in this service will be contacted by a Case Manager on the next business day.
